You might be able to tell that I've been trying to get my mixes sounding better in my tracks. For a long time I've been tweaking details, EQing a ton, and compressing. But then I thought to myself, "maybe the problem is that I have so much going on in the song at once". Turns out that that was a huge problem!
Sometimes you have to make small sacrifices in order to make the mix better, such as removing a certain element from the song and just using it later. If too many things are going on at once, all of the frequencies will be jumbled up.
If you listen closely to songs by popular artists like Zomboy, Pegboard Nerds, and Knife Party, you can tell that their songs do not have a ton going on at once. Just a bassline, drums, an arp and maybe a pad. That just goes to show that quality goes over quantity. Making good sounds and fitting them together goes a long way!
Hope this helps some of you. Goodbye!
